Comments: My 12 years as a gunner were some of the best years of my career. Flew Fs, Ds, G, and Hs and enjoyed them all, but LOVED the D. All aft compartment commanders know what I mean. Spent time at Minot, Seymour-Johnson, and Castle. Went a little crazy in 82 and decided I needed a change and became a Special Agent in OSI until I retired at WPAFB in 91. It's nice to see quite a few of the old names. I'd be pleased to hear from any of you. Be warned though; I'm now a preacher of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. I know we were all wilder in our young days, but even we gunners grow old and finally sober up. C'est La Vie!

Comments: Hello to all from the great northern plains. Dave, great site thanks for the effort. Back at Minot for the second time, this time driving a truck around the flightline directing the maintenance effort so the new breed of BUFF crews can get there sorties. Kinda different than riding the ejection seat. Glad to see all the great names on the roster. I was in the 23rd with Kelly Flynn. I often wondered who would have been the best candidate as her gunner. Many names brought a smile to my face as I imagined the atmosphere that could have brought. Could we have survived? Drop a line if you care to, Ill be here. I bump into Dick Suedekamp, Charlie Stehr and Tom Lindsey every once in a while.

Well lets see, I was in stan/eval at castle when we hit the unemployment line so I went across the street to boom school and ended up in Montana for a few years. I must have let the Air Force know I loved it up there because I had to move to Florida four years after that. I'm the wing boom at macdill now and get sunburned putting christmas lights up on my house. Ran in to Joe Priess checking out of billeting at Rota, sorry I wasn't much conversation Joe but you were real blurry due to a gallon of spanish wine the night before. My favorite was always the B-36 but I was too young when she was in inventory. I cannot believe that SAC is no more. This nation is in terrible trouble and I'm worried. The gunners position is still needed. If our BUFFs go to war again and need check six protection we're in deep shit. Eliminating those 600+ positions was not a savings but a political scam job.

Cazzaza who had the pleasure of my services in the Spectre gunship the night he was shot down outside of NKP :-) Got out on a medical in 1977 and now work for Apple Computer. Let me know if you need a good deal on a great computer. Speaking of great, I heard a good one the other day, a good landing is one you walk away from, a GREAT landing is when you can still fly the plane afterwards. :-) P.S. If you all are ever in the SF Bay area give me a call (I'm in the book) and I would be glad to fly you over to vist the old Castle field and museum.

Looking for that bunch too. --- Hold your fire, gunners, but I'm retired from the Navy. The Navy, however, never could get gunner out of me. Guess I was the only Buff gunner in the navy. My general quarters station in the Persian Gulf was controlling, among other things, twin 20mm gats and 50 cals. A SAC trained sailor... who'd have believed it?

As I read down the list of Steely-eyed SAC Trained Baby killers who have signed the guestbook, I saw guys like Joe Preiss and Quinn Janke, two fine gunners I had the pleasure of hangin with in the Great White North of Grand Forks AFB from June of '83 til December of '84, and who probably won't even remember who I was. I wasn't there in the Fightin' 46th for long, but I learned more about what it means to be a gunner AND about how to be a gunner from Mel Freise, Joe Corbin, Monty Wilfong, Mike Juniper, Dave Grey and Skippy Joe-Bob during those long nights at Johnny's bar in Emerado than any classroom could've ever taught me. Would love to hear from any ole 46th BMS gunners!

I am not computer literate, but as you can see for a $100 bucks I can surf the world. Started out on C-47s as an airborne radio operator in Germany, then KC-97Fs out of Dow AFB, Maine, attended CCTS in 59-60, got sent right back to Dow. PCS'ed to Carswell, spent some time on Guam in April of '65, PCS'd to Izmir, Turkey--OJT'd back into airborne radio (stationed at Aviano, Italy and Athens, Greece, before coming home). Then EC-121s out of Mc in Sacramento. Spent all my time at Korat, RTAF base or on Tinan, ROC. Picked up a Special Assignment to the USDAO in Istanbul, Turkey, flew on C-47s, 131s, and almost had a shot on Air Force One when the guys who walked on the moon toured the world (this 2nd PCS to Turkey almost cost me my wife, she hated Turkey the first time), came back to the states and attended CCTS again then stationed at Beale, then CCTS again, Castle, then retirement on 1/1/79 Really enjoyed looking at the pictures. Brings back powerful visions of yesteryear. Keep up the good work. Will definitely visit again.

I'm at the schoolhouse, again, in -135's and am getting ready to PCS and do a special duty tour as an MTM at the Air Force Academy. So when I get settled next month, I will generate and new home page and e-mail address. A few other gunner's are here, Dalton Pratt, Dave Monk, and Rip Adcock who is now retired. This e-mail address will be good for another month. I guess my only note worthy accomplishments are flying combat sorties during Desert Storm out of Diego Garcia and performing and instructing the infamous WIFF from two different aircraft while instructing at two different CFIC's. Please write I'd be glad to hear from fellow gunner's.

Comments: Flew the buff in late 70's at Wurtsmith; got out to get a college degree in 1980 at Indiana University with the intent for returning as an EW or Photoreconn F4 backseater; got sick with gallstones, dropped out to pay the surgery bills leaving me too old for flight school. After a year of doing high speed motion picture stuff as an Army civilian, I returned to finish my degree at IU. Along with the VN GI Bill, I worked my way through school as a software jockey at the IUCF cyclotron and graduated with a degree in Astrophysics in 1986. I hired on with the Astronomy Department at IU that fall as a Research Analyst (I call myself a Computer Jock, Etc.) My main claim to fame is building autonomous robotic telescopes (RoboScope and SpectraBot); besides telescope control systems, I've also published some papers on cataclysmic variable stars, quasars, and chondrule formation in the early solar system. I've missed military flying everyday since I left; instead of operating airborne sensors, I now build detectors that do it themselves and I get to sleep through the night. It's as interesting as those old days; but the excitement and the esprit de corps isn't quite the same. Have a good one.... - geo
